OUR STORY
In September 2025 we were walking in the wild streets of Skopje, North Macedonia. After a nice cup of coffee, walk along the Vardar river and one treated blister, came an important question. “Should we tell the team tonight?”. “Yes, but what should we call ourselves?” Ester answered. “I think we could say we are together,” Jan replied.
But how did we get to that point?

Ester grew up in Uppsala, Sweden, she was the youngest in her family, and enjoyed dancing, creative activities, cooking and baking. The church and her christian school was just 200 meters from her home and already as a child she decided to follow Jesus. That is what eventually brought her to bible school.
On the other hand Jan was from Czechia. He was the oldest of his siblings. His interests included computers and all the boring facts you can think of (science, politics, historical linguistics). Typical geek. He also had a christian upbringing, but gave his life fully to Jesus at 15. After several years he felt God leading him to move to Uppsala and study at a bible school there. Same bible school as Ester, but a few years earlier.
One day Jan was serving at a wedding. Helping out together with a few friends. Little did he know, that his future wife was eating the rice that he accidentally overcooked. In the end of the wedding the newlyweds presented all the volunteers. “Why is that guy smiling so much? Why is he so unserious?” Ester thought.
Few years later our paths crossed again, Ester was preparing for a mission trip to Balkans. After finishing the bible school Jan became a missionary there. During one of the talks Ester realised she liked Jan. “What is happening? Am I allowed to like a missionary?” she thought, but kept it for herself.
During this trip we talked a lot. One evening Ester decided to go for a run in the morning. Jan heard her talking about it and since he liked running he asked to join her. We had a beautiful run that day in the streets of Prizren, Kosovo. Jan was impressed. “What a girl, and she also likes to run!”, but then he immediately pushed that idea away.
Then came 5 months of silence…
In the summer we met again at the Europe conference in Uppsala, doing kids ministry together, talking for hours, but still nothing was spoken out. By the end of the summer, Jan came again to Sweden. Now the plan was for Ester to go for a long trip to Balkans with her bible school classmates. Right before leaving Jan received a call from Ester. “Why are you so kind to me?” she asked. Jan didn’t know what to answer… “It was nothing romantic!” he replied. Yet Ester was not troubled, she knew there was more to be said. After one more call, things started to shift. “Maybe she could be a girl for me,” Jan thought.
When Ester arrived to Macedonia, things were already in motion. After one week things finally surfaced, and shortly after we became a couple. Since then we got engaged and we are looking forward to celebrating our big day with you! ♥️
